Glacier Falls was, simply put, an ice rink located at 211 W. Katella Avenue, Anaheim, California.  It first opened in 1959, and finally closed for good in 1983.  But in that time, due to its unusual floor layout, among other things, Glacier Falls was much more than an ice rink, it was a home away from home for hundreds of people, most (but not all) young.  One case in point is that on Christmas Eves and Christmas nights, while most public places were either closed or "dead", Glacier Falls was alive with skating as usual, and friends enjoying each other's company, just like family!
We called ourselves "Rink Rats".  While most were speed skaters, many were also hockey and figure skaters.
Why did it close?  Well, in my opinion, things change.  In the 1960's, there was not much to do.  People, especially kids, have so many choices today that they did not have back then.  Add to that the fact that, in about 1974, three other brand new ice rinks opened within 15 minutes of Glacier Falls.  They kind of drained the skater pool.

A Long Way to Go, but this is a start!
We desperately need photos of the rink itself, inside or out.  No problem if people are in the photos, as long as they are not the major subject of the photos.  If you have something you'd like to share, please contact Jerry Search, webmaster.

Glacier Falls Reunion?  Yup, we are planning one, probably for Summer 2007!
See Kenny Hedgpeth's webpage for more information!
What is a "Friend" of Glacier Falls?  Simple:  Just one of the many, many people who hung out at this wonderful ice rink.  We called ourselves "Rink Rats".  While most were speed skaters, many were also hockey and figure skaters.
